Wound debridement is an essential part of wound bed preparation, as it helps to remove non-viable tissue which can delay healing and act as a focus for infection. Many debridement techniques exist, all of which require varying levels of expertise and have their advantages and disadvantages in terms of time taken, expense, patient acceptability and ease of use.
