Wound healing in frail elderly patients

Care of the elderly and geriatric medicineΒ is a rapidly expanding specialty, due toΒ a growing elderly population with anΒ increasing complexity of health problems and careΒ needs. Frailty, a state of increased vulnerability toΒ changes in homeostasis or external stressors is anΒ increasing problem in the elderly, and worseningΒ frailty is associated with an increased risk ofΒ hospital admission, care home admission andΒ death so managing frailty is everyone’s concernΒ (Romero-Ortundo, 2012).
