Skin integrity, its assessment, management and prevention of deterioration is the responsibility of all healthcare workers. Maintenance of good skin integrity is everyones business and we need to regroup and refocus if harm to patients skin integrity is to be avoided (Bateman, 2013). This article will focus on the prevention of pressure ulcers within the seated patient, specifically in the lower extremities, highlighting the need to explore innovative ways of managing this patient group, and asking if we can adopt theatre surfaces in the patient journey.
