Wound care affects all patients from neonates to the elderly encompassing all specialities. The best practice statement, Optimising Wound Care, states that ‘any patient with a wound has a right to expect a good minimum standard of care regardless of the aetiology of their wound, where the care is delivered or by whom’ (Wounds UK, 2008). Therefore, clinicians who care for patients with wounds are responsible for ensuring that their practice is of the highest standard.
