About

Reducing the risk of SSI during C-Section is crucial for both maternal and neonatal outcomes. Surgical site infections can lead to prolonged recovery, hospital readmissions, and complications including wound infection, increased pain, reduction of quality of life outcomes and increased financial costs. C sections have increased globally with reported rates of SSI to be between 3-15%.

For people undergoing a C-Section initial wound care is managed by midwives with referral to community nurses or tissue viability if advice is required or the wound shows signs of infection, dehiscence etc. It is essential a multi-professional approach to reduction of SSI in this wound type is carried out through the pre-intra and post operative period.

This webinar will explore:

  • The role of antiseptics in cleansing the wound during the pre, intra and post operative period
  • The role of Infection Control
  • SSI bundles particularly in the pre and intra operative period
  • Case studies in managing the wound post operatively
