Although skin grafting has been associated with plastic surgery and specialist nursing historically, the procedure and postoperative management is not exclusive to the specialty and has been adopted by all fields dealing with skin defects. With the wider use of the technique and patients presenting to hospital and community-based settings for wound reviews, it is important for nurses in all areas to become familiar with the management of skin grafts and donor sites.
