Newly released NICE MT guidance for treating diabetic foot ulcers and leg ulcers using UrgoStart

31 January 2019

The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) has assessed UrgoStart for treating diabetic foot ulcers and leg ulcers to help the NHS decide whether to use this product. NICE concluded that UrgoStart dressings should be considered for diabetic foot ulcers and venous leg ulcers because evidence shows they work better than standard dressings. However, they should not be used for non-venous leg ulcers.

For people with non-venous leg ulcers, the committee concluded that even though it is plausible that there are benefits from using UrgoStart, there is insufficient evidence to support routine adoption in this group.
